The Mattel company was founded in California in 1945 and opened its subsidiary in our country on November 12, 1983, underlining the values ​​of "creativity and the knowledge necessary to offer the games and toys that each child needs throughout their development." as explained by the company in a statement. The toymaker had already arrived in Spain in 1975, thanks to a distribution agreement with a local company, which brought Barbie dolls and Masters of the Universe figures to the country's children. The company gradually incorporated a Walt Disney licensed product into its company, as well as toys from Fisher-Price and JW Spear (maker of Scrabble) that the company acquired in 1991 and 1994, respectively, with the aim of offering toys suitable for each age range. In addition to its classic brands, it offers not only traditional toys, but items that play with technological elements, such as Mattel Apptivity, a range in which figures and vehicles interact with touch screens. Nicolas Houssin, Managing Director of Mattel Spain explains that “with the brands and toys that have marked a before and after in the gaming world, we have managed to create a unique emotional bond with several generations who have played with Barbie, Fisher-Price and Hot Wheels. Today, Mattel has become a benchmark in the industry thanks to this support from children and families. " The toymaker is the leader in Spain, registering in 2012 a market share of 14.7% and total sales of 7 million toys, according to data from NPD.
